Sophie Ballantine Hawkins (ur.1 listopada 1964 w Nowym Jorku) – amerykańska wokalistka, autorka tekstów piosenek, malarka.Uważana jest za piosenkarkę i kompozytorkę pop, jednak jej inspiracje sięgają dalej, m.in. do muzyki dance i folk.Jej największe przeboje to "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover", "Right Beside You", "As I Lay Me Down" i "Only Love (The Ballad Of Sleeping Beauty)".
Biografie. Sophie B. Hawkins werd op 1 november 1964 in Manhattan geboren. Ze kende een ongelukkige jeugd. Vanaf haar tiende werd ze seksueel misbruikt en ze leed aan anorexia.Op haar veertiende liep ze van huis weg en ging ze bij een Nigeriaanse percussionist wonen. Ze studeerde aan de Manhattan School of Music.In de jaren 80 werd ze percussioniste in de band van Bryan Ferry.

The utterly spellbinding "only love" is, in my opinion, her definitive song, her magnum opus, about love and one of the principal reasons why I choose to buy this album.
