Jane’s Addiction powstało po spotkaniu muzyków Psi Com i Flower Quartet. W tej pierwszej udzielał się Perry Farrell, a w drugiej Eric Avery. Farrell potrzebował basisty, by utrzymać Psi Com przy życiu, a Avery był bez zespołu, gdyż Flower Quartet się rozpadło. Wszystko to działo się w roku 1985 .
