The Marshall Tucker Band was formed in the cotton mill town of Spartanburg, South Carolina in 1972, when The Toy Factory, a band that soon became the best loved group in Upstate South Carolina, shifted personal, and added Paul T. Riddle on drums and Toy Caldwell’s brother Tommy Caldwell on bass.

Keeping those numbers in mind, it is amazing that the band had the time to record A New Life (released during the first half of the year) and Where We All Belong, which was a 1974 fall release. Like all of the first six Tucker albums, A New Life was recorded by Paul Hornsby at Capricorn Studios in Macon, Georgia.
