Biography. Thaddeus Joseph Jones was born on March 28, 1923 in Pontiac, Michigan. Jones’s father, originally from Vicksburg, Mississippi, was a lumber inspector for General Motors and a deacon in the Baptist church. His mother was a housewife, who encouraged her five children’s interest in music.
27 de mar. de 2023 · While a member of the Count Basie Orchestra, he recorded essential small-group leader records, including The Magnificent Thad Jones and Detroit-New York Junction for Blue Note. In 1955, Jones met drummer Mel Lewis, then with Kenton – and in the mid-’60s, the pair began to devise their own group.
