One of the two lead guitarists of the psychedelic-era San Francisco band Quicksilver Messenger Service, Gary Duncan, died June 29, 2019.Duncan, who also served as one of the group’s three primary singers, died in Woodland, Calif., after suffering a seizure and falling into a coma.

He grew up in Ceres (Stanislaus County) and was adopted by a family that had come from Arkansas.Years later when he found his birth certificate he changed his last name from Grubb to Duncan, after his birth father.
