When Rice arrived at Mississippi Valley State, he attended summer school and freshman orientation before the regular season. Two of his former teammates from B.L. Moor were there as well, but both left before the start of training camp.

The summer camp hosted by MVSU men's basketball program is open to all entries from ages 8-16 only. Participation cost is set at $25 per camper.
