This town’s history as a surfing destination is rather short, as Nazaré didn’t really enter into the surfing world until 2011. In 2011, Garrett McNamara surfed a 23.8 meter/78 foot wave, a record breaker at the time.

The small town of Nazareth only had 2,000 people. Some scholars consider Nazareth as Jesus’ birthplace, some say it’s where his parents resettled after coming from Bethlehem.
