Manchester Metropolitan Institution (MMU), a public university with its roots in 1843, is situated in the city of Manchester. Its original name was Manchester Polytechnic, and it was created in 1970 as a result of the amalgamation of the Manchester School of Design and the Manchester Mechanics Institute.
