  4. Richard Briers CBE was an English actor who specialised in comic roles. He attained stardom within 3 years of beginning work as an actor, alongside Prunella Scales in the hit domestic sitcom Marriage Lines. Briers is best remembered for his starring roles in 1970s sitcom smash-hit The Good Life, and 1980s comedy Ever Decreasing Circles.

Briers’ agent, Christopher Farrar, said Monday that the actor died at his London home on Sunday. A former heavy smoker, he had suffered from emphysema.
