"A Scarcity of Miracles" entstand aus den gemeinsamen Sessions von Jakko Jakszyk und Robert Fripp. Zusammen mit dem Saxophonisten Mel Collins wurde daraus ein King Crimson ProjeKcts Album, zu dem Tony Levin und Porcupine Tree Drummer Gavin Harrison Bass und Schlagzeug beisteuerten.

King Crimson was not active at the time, but by the fall of 2013 Fripp announced that the legendary prog outfit would indeed be re-forming, and the following year the lineup was set, building on the foundation of A Scarcity of Miracles participants Jakszyk, Fripp, Collins, Levin, and Harrison, and also adding previous bandmember Pat Mastelotto and newcomer Bill Rieflin.
A Scarcity of Miracles est né de répétitions effectuées par Fripp et le chanteur-guitariste Jakko Jakszyk, membre du tribute band 21th Century Schizoid Band, où Mel Collins jouait également. Les trois musiciens ont finalement décidé de composer ensemble un nouvel album, en s'accompagnant au passage de Tony Levin et Gavin Harrison, membres de la section rythmique de KING CRIMSON.
