Der Boston Terrier ist Nachfahre der ersten, von Siedlern aus Europa an die Ostküste der USA mitgebrachten Terrier und Bulldoggen. Entstanden ist der Boston Terrier um 1870 aus einer Kreuzung von Englischer Bulldogge mit weißen englischen Terrier. Die kleine Terrierrasse sollte ursprünglich als Kampfhund zum Einsatz kommen.

The American Kennel Club puts the Boston Terrier into three weight groups – under 15 pounds, 15 to under 20 pounds and 20 to 25 pounds. The breed standard is not to exceed 25 pounds, but I’ve seen plenty of healthy Boston Terriers up to 35 pounds. Their coat is short and standard colors are black, brindle, or seal (appears black but shows a red tint in sunlight) with white markings.
Like many breeds the Boston Terrier takes his name from the area where he was developed – in this case the New England city of Boston USA. The first club was founded in the 1890s in Boston and membership was confined to Bostonians. However, its fame soon spread throughout America and by the 1950s it was the most popular breed in the USA.
