John Kander had some successes in the early '50s with various lyricists before meeting Fred Ebb in 1962. The fabled pair made their debut with the score for FLORA, THE RED MENACE in 1965, but truly hit their stride with their stunning work the next year on CABARET; the classic musical would go on to win seven Tony Awards, including Best Score.
