18 de nov. de 2022 · Finally! A Neil Young record that sounds like something new. Maybe it's his focus on piano and organ, over wall-to-wall guitar. Or maybe Rick Rubin helped him take a fresh approach. I had delayed buying this album, thinking it would be more of the Crazy Horse sound Neil produces consistently. It rocks, but can also feel a bit repetitive.

Style-wise “World Record” is a mix of a nostalgic sound & Grungy Rock, with Rubin giving the guitars a great dirty feel. Although this album has a live in the studio feel, similar to Youngs recent records with Crazy Horse & Promise of the Real, Rubin is able to pick out all the instruments individually, instead of the usual wall of sound approach, giving the music a lot more depth.
