We studied 35 Stenopterygius specimens from the collections of the Staatliches Museum für Naturkunde Stuttgart (SMNS), in which all or some of the braincase elements were exposed; four of these were gravid females in which the embryonic braincases could also be observed (see Table S1 in Supplemental Data).
