Pola Negri, born as Apolonia Chalupec on January 3, 1897, was a Polish stage and film actress who achieved great success and recognition during the early years of Hollywood's silent film era. She is often referred to as one of the greatest silent film stars and was celebrated for her powerful performances and captivating presence on screen.
The film was shot in Kraków's Kazimierz district and starred American actress, Molly Picon. The outbreak of World War II put a halt to all film projects, with many of Poland's most promising directors, producers and actors fleeing Nazi-occupied Poland for Europe and Hollywood, such as Roman Polański.
