28 de ene. de 2017 · One in particular was the newspaper article on the wedding of the century- Edith Ewing Bouvier marries Phelan Beale on January 17th, 1917. It's hard to believe that 100 years has gone by. The article mentioned that the wedding was held at Saint Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. There were 3500 guests in attendance.
A classic in the “direct cinema” genre, which brothers David and Albert Maysles pioneered through such films as Salesman (1968) and Gimme Shelter (1970), Grey Gardens is the story of “Big Edie” Bouvier Beale and her adult daughter “Little Edie” and the overgrown, crumbling East Hampton mansion they shared for decades with assorted cats, fleas, and raccoons.
14 de ene. de 2002 · Edith Bouvier Beale was born in Manhattan on Nov. 7, 1917. She was the eldest of the 10 grandchildren of John Vernou Bouvier Jr., who spent summers at the family estate in East Hampton, Lasata. Another of the grandchildren was Jacqueline Bouvier, the future first lady.
Edith “Little Edie” Bouvier Beale (1917-2002) is best known for her appearance in the critically acclaimed 1975 film Grey Gardens, a documentary by Albert and David Maysles that explored the reclusive lives of Beale and her mother “Big Edie,” the first cousin and aunt of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, respectfully.
About Big Edie. Although her daughter Edie gets most of the attention and acclaim in the Grey Gardens documentary, those close to the family say that mother Edith was always the real talent and star of the “Beale” show. Edith Ewing Bouvier was born October 5, 1895 in Nutley, New Jersey.
