The flag of Slovakia consists of three horizontal stripes in white, blue, and red colors, which are traditional Pan-Slavic colors, from top to bottom. On the left side of the flag, closer to the flagpole, is the national coat of arms of Slovakia. The coat of arms features a double cross in white on a blue background atop a three-peaked mountain.
The Slovakia flag, in common with other Slavic nations, uses the white, blue and red colours. Slovakia’s flag in its current form (but with another coat of arms on it or without any arms) can be dated back to the revolutionary year 1848 (see: The Revolutions of 1848 in the Habsburg areas).
The flag of Slovakia has its origins in 1848, when under a panslavism thought, the slovaks adopted the Russia flag. The actual version was adopted on January the First in 1993, day of the Indipendence from Czech Republic and it adds in the upper left quadrant the coat of arm of the Patriarchal cross, the same of the Upper Hungary (1848).
