Joey Dee & The Starliters originally released Peppermint Twist - Part 1 written by Joey Dee [US] and Henry Glover and Joey Dee & The Starliters released it on the single Peppermint Twist in 1961. It was also covered by Vince Taylor et ses play-boys, The Glitter Band featuring John Rossall, Kim & The Cadillacs, Melvis and His Rock'n'Roll Band and other artists.
The Twist was also a dance where the participants didn't touch each other, which became a new trend, especially with disco dancing. Chubby Checker hit #1 in the US with this song on September 19, 1960. That same week, the original version by Hank Ballard & The Midnighters reached its peak chart position of #28.
