Mike Bloomfield (July 28, 1943 – February 15, 1981) was largely the mind behind that music. The next year, he cowrote — and dominated — “East-West,” the thirteen-minute raga-influenced track on the Paul Butterfield Blues Band album of the same name. Bloomfield introduced the oratorio form to pop music.
