Girton College begann als eine Wohngemeinschaft von fünf Studentinnen in Hitchin in Hertfordshire. 1873 wurde das Hauptgebäude des Colleges etwa fünf Kilometer nordwestlich des Stadtzentrums von Cambridge in Nähe der Ortschaft Girton, der es seinen Namen verdankt, erbaut. Girton was created by the hard work and generosity of a campaigning group of women and men. Particularly important were Henry Tomkinson (1831–1906), and Henrietta, Lady Stanley of Alderley (1807–1895); in time both would be immortalised in the College coat of arms. Chapel Community The Chaplain. Rev’d Dr Tim Boniface is the College Chaplain. As well as overseeing the life of the Chapel and leading the worship, Tim is part of Girton’s welfare structure and is available to all members of the College for confidential conversation on any matter of concern.
