Legend of the Galactic Heroes shines in that it doesn't attempt to force an answer upon the reader. There is no black or white in this novel; neither faction is painted as 'good' or 'evil'. Characters in both the Galactic Empire and Free Planets Alliance are well-developed, their motivations explored, their actions realistic.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes (銀河英雄伝説 Ginga Eiyū Densetsu?) or "LOGH" is a series of science fiction novels by Yoshiki Tanaka.An anime adaptation of the novels ran from 1988 to 2000 as well as a manga based on the novels, with art by Katsumi Michihara. There have also been several video game adaptations with the most recent release in 2008 being a real time simulation.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes is one of the most highly rated shows by people who have seen it. As a result I had high expectations when I started the show, but ultimately dropped it about 70 episodes in.
