Biographie : Shirley Jackson est une romancière américaine spécialiste du récit fantastique et d'horreur. Diplômée à la Brighton High School en 1934, puis à l'Université de Rochester, elle obtient son BA à l'Université de Syracuse en 1940. Elle épouse la même année le critique littéraire Stanley Edgar Hyman (1919-1970).
