David Lance "Dave" Arneson (October 1, 1947 - April 7, 2009) was an American game designer best known for co-developing Dungeons & Dragons along with Gary Gygax. In 1970, he created the fictional world and game elements that became Blackmoor. Awards Winner of the 1983 Charles S. Roberts Hall of Fame Award at Origins '84.

Dungeons & Dragons wouldn’t be half the game it is without Dave Arneson. Literally. Arneson is credited with inventing “dungeons” so without him, the game would just be “& Dragons.”
