La Generación Beat: Manifiesto. Antes del éxito generalizado del movimiento, a mediados de la década de 1940, Lucien Carr escribió lo que muchos siguen considerando el Manifiesto Beat.Aunque otros afirman que el manifiesto es el artículo de Holme publicado en 1952 en el New York Times, la versión de Carr es anterior a ese artículo y puede considerarse la edición pionera.
