15 de may. de 2014 · Interview with Sly Dunbar. 05/15/2014 by Angus Taylor. Drummer Sly Dunbar is one half of production duo Sly and Robbie. He's also the driving force behind some of reggae music's greatest innovations. He's changed the beat of reggae more than once. Most famously with the mid 70s “rockers” double drumming pattern at Channel One studios.
Sly Dunbar For years he has set new standards for dance music using his unique blend of Reggae, Funk and Hip Hop with his longtime associate Robbie Shakespeare. Dubbed the Riddim Twins, Sly and Robbie pioneered the fusion of Hip Hop and Reggae that is today taking the charts by storm - Dancehall Reggae has left a trail of music rich in rhythm and bass.
Sly Dunbar est né en 1952 à Kingston. Il choisit son pseudo en hommage de Sly Stone. Mais l’artiste qui lui donna la vocation fut le batteur des Skatalites: Lloyd Knibbs. Dès l’adolescence, il participe à des groupes de reggae comme Yardbrooms. Mais il va débuter, professionnellement parlant, au sein du studio de Lee Perry.

Eno said that there is a 90% percent chance that any reggae record you buy has Sly as the drummer. He was nicknamed Sly Stone because of his devotion to what he did.
