By the end of the decade, sensing the harder direction of British rock, McPhee had reformed The Groundhogs – with Peter Cruickshank on bass and Ken Pustelnik on drums – and the band began to tour and record in earnest under their own name.

Groundhog dens are elaborate structures, up to 60 feet long, with multiple chambers. The main chamber, the nest chamber, is lined with soft bedding made from dead vegetation.
The Groundhogs story began in 1962, when bassist Pete Cruickshank and his brother, singer and harmonica player John Cruickshank, formed a band called the Dollar Bills.
