It was first released in 1979 and has acquired the status of a classic album in the history of South African music.
Juluka was a South African band formed by Johnny Clegg and Sipho Mchunu. Juluka means "sweat" in Zulu, and was the name of a bull owned by Mchunu. The band was closely associated with the mass movement against apartheid.

The band formed in the early 1970s and split in the mid 1980s when Johnny embarked on a new career with his own band, Savuka. Juluka reformed in 1996 and recorded a new album, Ya Vuka Inkunzi ( Crocodile Love ).
