The Red Skelton Hour: Created by Marcel Marceau. With Red Skelton, David Rose and His Orchestra, Art Gilmore, Tom Hansen Dancers. A comedy-themed variety show, hosted by the popular comedian Red Skelton. It run with no interruption from 1951 to 1971. From 1956 to 1962, the show's head writer was Sherwood Schwartz, who had previous experience as a comedy writer for Bob Hope's radio show.
The Red Skelton Show made its television premiere on September 30, 1951 on NBC. By 1954, Skelton’s program moved to CBS, where it was expanded to one hour and renamed The Red Skelton Hour in 1962. Despite high ratings, the show was cancelled by CBS in 1970, as the network believed that more youth-oriented programs were needed to attract younger viewers and their spending power.

For two seasons Red continued his radio show while also doing his TV show. The series originally aired in a half-hour show on NBC.
