Sandy Powell: I had a young mum, who would make all my clothes and my sister’s clothes. I was always around her, choosing the fabrics, looking at patterns and watching the process. I don’t remember how old I was, but I learnt to sew as soon as I could and started making clothes for my dolls and drawing clothes.
