Soul Asylum's latest albums insult their artistic talent. Faces And Names (Ultimatum, 2002) is David Pirner's first solo album. Murphy's Hurricane is the highlight of Golden Smog's Another Fine Day (Lost Highway, 2006), a less cohesive work than the previous supergroup's albums.
Soul Asylum (2) Soul Asylum is an American alternative rock band formed in 1981 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, best known for the Grammy-winning 1993 hit "Runaway Train". The band was originally called Loud Fast Rules, with a lineup consisting of Dave Pirner, Dan Murphy, Karl Mueller, and Pat Morley. They changed their name to Soul Asylum in 1983.
Soul Asylum would never class as a protest band, but they definitely had a social conscience. It rises to the surface at various moments in their back catalogue with this cut as an early example; a tale of greed and industrialisation, it points a none too subtle finger at the robber barons of Reagan’s America.
