The Christmas Song by Alex Chilton was written by Robert Wells and Mel Tormé and was first recorded by Nat "King" Cole [Trio] in 1989. It was first released by The King Cole Trio with String Choir in 1946. Alex Chilton released it on the album Clichés in 1993. It was covered by Brian Culbertson, Blake Bolerjack, Blue Seven, Blake Aaron featuring Jeff Gonzales and other artists.
Recorded in New York, North Carolina, New Orleans, Washington, D.C, Hoboken, at Water Music, Bearsville Studios, Modern Recording, Triple Cove and places unknown. 2006 mixing at Modern Recording. First with The Box Tops but most importantly with the Memphis band Big Star, Chilton all but invented American power-pop, even if most people will know him more by the bands he influenced than by his own spectacular work.
