26 de nov. de 2019 · Orpheus finally entered the light in the upperworld and turned around to embrace his wife, but she had not emerged from the underworld. She was still in the dark when Orpheus turned around to hug her. At that moment, Eurydice was condemned to the underworld forever.
Eurydice was a nymph – a dryad, specifically (a nymph associated with the forests) who married Orpheus. One day, while she was out among the Thracian countryside, she was pursued by a shepherd, Aristaeus, who wanted her. As she fled from him, she stood on a serpent which reared up and bit her on the leg, killing her with its venom.

Kerouac wrote the story shortly after meeting Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs, Lucien Carr, and others in and around Columbia University who would form the core of the Beats.
