JIM CARREY is Chip Douglas, cable installer. Raised on television sitcoms, he wants life to look just like My Three Sons. And when he meets single guy Steven Kovacs (MATTHEW BRODERICK), he sees his chance for some serious male bonding. The movie is intentionally twisted and uncomfortable, yet it is unsuccessful at mining laughs from its unpleasantness. Broderick, who has affable moments, is mostly around to gape, while director Stiller shows intermittent visual style but can't seem to reign Carrey in. *1/2 from ****. 9 out of 19 found this helpful.
