I was into the Grateful Dead first and saw them a few times before discovering Phish, soon after. This was in 1993 and I was 19. My friends and I liked them equally at that time. I still like Phish and see them whenever can, but I rarely listen to Phish anymore. I stll listen to the Grateful Dead every day.

I have to go with the dead personally while phish is amazing musical ability, culturally, the lives of the band members etc. the dead wins for me for one big reason (there are others but i'll stick with this) phish is amazing feel good music very upbeat and out of this world BUT the seldom get very deep or deal with the hardships of life Carini ...
Phish fan since 1993. When I started going to shows, there were definitely some Phish fans that mocked the Dead for being older, and sounding slower, and all that kind of stuff. (Anecdotally, I was in college at the time and my circle of friends lost a few members because they threw a "Grateful He's Dead" party when Jerry passed away.
Because I dont come here for Phish. Simple as that, man. This post is probably on the low end of annoying but the constant need for acceptance from Deadheads by the Phish fans is ridiculous. Its not Phish I dislike so much as it's their fans. You see it at Dead shows, music discussions and subreddits dedicated specifically to the Grateful Dead.
