Composer David Hirschfelder talks about his work on the film Strictly Ballroom (1992). As well as composing numerous scores for Australian films and TV, David has twice been nominated for Best Original Score at the Oscars (for Shine, 1996 and Elizabeth, 1998).
David Hirschfelder (born 18 November 1960, Ballarat, Victoria) is an Australian musician, film score composer and performer. As a musician he has been a member of Little River Band and John Farnham Band. In the meantime, he received his first credits as main composer for the TV movie Shadows of the Heart and the series Skirts, both in 1990. His theatrical debut was also director Baz Luhrmann's first film, the dance-themed Strictly Ballroom (1992). It won Hirschfelder a BAFTA Award for Best Original Film Score.
