13 de mar. de 2018 · Marc Lafrance is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Concordia University in Montréal, Canada. His research focuses on the relationship between the skin, the self and the social. Informed by psychoanalysis, phenomenology and biopolitical theory, Lafrance’s work attempts to provide contemporary theorists with new tools for critically thinking and rethinking the experience of embodiment.

Marc Lafrance: When I started working on the skin in 1999, there was very little scholarship that took it up as an object in its own right. Jay Prosser’s book Second Skins: The Body Narratives of Transsexuality appeared in 1998, but it was one of the only books that sought to think critically about how and why the skin matters as much as it does.
