Commissioner Jim Martin began his first term as County Commissioner in 2012. He was born and raised in Adams County and graduated from Gettysburg High School. He and his wife Ginny have resided in Menallen Township and Butler Township for the past 37 years, homeschooling their four children, who are all now college graduates and married .
Professor Martin’s research interests include systemic theory, functional grammar, discourse semantics, register, genre, multimodality and critical discourse analysis, focusing on English, Tagálog, Korean and Spanish – with special reference to the transdisciplinary fields of clinical linguistics, educational linguistics, forensic linguistics and social semiotics.

"Big" Jim Martin (born James Martin, on 21 July 1961, in Hayward, California) is mainly known for being Faith No More guitar player from 1983 to 1993 on the albums We Care a Lot, Introduce Yourself, The Real Thing, and Angel Dust. In 1997 he released a solo album, Milk And Blood.
