He embodies thoughtful energy and soul. Born Pat Azzara in Philadelphia in 1944, Pat was first exposed to jazz through his father, Carmen "Mickey" Azzara, who sang in local clubs and briefly studied guitar with Eddie Lang. He took Pat to all the city's hot-spots to hear and meet Wes Montgomery and other musical giants.
From 1972, here are three pieces from a live performance of Pat Martino with quartet. This is fusion/post bop at its best, with tricky heads, flexible tempos, and a 'free jazz' moment now and then. Martino has a fat, chewy guitar tone which is perfect for his loquacious linear runs.

To me, the outcome is what is left behind compared to the very moments of filming when it's been enjoyed as life itself. So, for me, each and every moment on the film is not what I see on the film, even though it's a replica.
