On the counter of the shop was a ceramic pig. If you lit the wick at its tail, it performed for you!! I knew the then owner of the Old Curiosity Shop and he took me on a tour of the underground passages beneath the shop, extensive, weird, fodder for imagination. First editions of Dickens' works were few, but they were worth a fortune.
1 de jul. de 2001 · Although sometimes dripping with sentimentality, The Old Curiosity Shop, as often characteristic of Dickens, has redeeming qualities that give insight to the world we live. The main characters undone by Quilp's viciousness (Nell, Kit) try to survive, and have an innocence that makes then susceptible to the world's corruptness.
