  1. The Michigan School for the Blind (MSB) was established by the Legislature in 1893 and operates under the authority of Sections 393.101 - 393.111 of the Michigan Compiled Laws. MSDB is under the jurisdiction of the Department of Education. Since October 1, 1995, both schools have been located together on an 85-acre campus in Flint.

  5. The Michigan School for the Deaf was founded in 1848 by an act of the State Legislature. Governor Ransom, governor at the time, suggested to the Legislature that a joint school for the deaf and dumb and the blind be established. E.H. Thomson introduced a bill to the Legislature.
