14 de jul. de 2020 · Sealand is an abandoned World War II anti-aircraft platform in the Thames Estuary. It just outside the UK's 3-mile territorial water limit. In the mid 1960s it was occupied by a British businessman, Roy Bates, and his family. He proclaimed himself Prince Roy and the platform to be the Principality of Sealand.
In true Sealand adventuring spirit, our mountaineering team have so far taken Sealand’s flag to the summit of 4 of the 7 highest peaks, including Mount Everest. We also have teams competing under the Sealand flag in curling, Ice Hockey, Long distance running.

Upon the declaration of independence, the founding Bates family raised the Sealand flag, pledging freedom and justice to all who lived under it. Following this, Sealand created everything you would expect from an independent country: a functioning government, passports, permanent population, constitution, currency, stamps and the means to defend our sovereignty.
