And happy birds certainly make for a tasty egg, so the pheasants spend lazy days roaming in the cover of fir trees with ample space to peck and perch.
Ring-necked Pheasant Color Pattern. Ring-necked Pheasants have strong sexual dimorphism with the males being the vibrant eye-catchers, while the females and juveniles are relatively drab. Male Ringnecks features a distinct white ringed collar around their necks demarcating the head and the body.
Melanistic mutant pheasant males are darker in color than the hens, but they’re still not a pure black color. Instead, the body of a male melanistic pheasant ranges from an iridescent beetle-green across the head and back to a dark iridescent bluish-black coloring on the chest, with stippling of the natural brown coloring in the feathers across the wings and back.
