Check that the loop of the (octave) key mechanism on the neck fits over the extending octave pin at the top of the body. These should end up being very close but not quite touching. The middle of the back of the neck should be lined up with the extending pin. Rest the saxophone down in its case or on a stand. Attach the reed to the mouthpiece.
