Derek and the Dominos was a short-lived English–American blues rock band formed in the spring of 1970 by singer-guitarist Eric Clapton, keyboardist-singer Bobby Whitlock, bassist Carl Radle and drummer Jim Gordon. All four members had previously played together in Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, during and after Clapton's brief tenure with Blind Faith.

4 de abr. de 2023 · After this, Mason opted out of Derek and the Dominos as he felt Eric Clapton’s commitment to his own band’s project wasn’t as focused as it should have been. Now back to a four-man band, Derek and the Dominos found living in the countryside wasn’t for them so they moved to a two-story flat in central London.
And then there’s ‘Layla’. Clapton was inspired to write the first part of the song having been given a copy of the Persian classical poet, Nizami Ganjavi’s book, The Story of Layla and Majnun. As we now know it is Clapton’s love song to Pattie Boyd, who at that time was married to George Harrison; she later married Clapton in 1979.
