Erik Hesselberg s-a născut în anul 1914 în Norvegia. A urmat mai târziu cursuri de artă la Hamburg. În anul 1947, el a luat parte la expediția Kon-Tiki a lui Thor Heyerdahl, care a constat în traversarea cu o plută din lemn de balsa a Oceanului Pacific din Peru până în Polinezia.
Erik Hesselberg (* 1914; † 1972) war ein norwegischer Künstler und Teilnehmer der Kon-Tiki-Expedition. Aufgewachsen in der norwegischen Hafenstadt Larvik fuhr Hesselberg nach beendetem Schulbesuch zur See und wurde Steuermann. Später studierte er in Hamburg Kunst und Gebrauchsgrafik.

He is currently working on a book about the lower Connecticut River, from which this story is drawn. 25 de nov. de 2017 · Gregory was predeceased by his son, Stefan G. Hesselberg, and a half-brother, Peter Douglas. He is survived by his son, Erik Hesselberg of Haddam, Connecticut, his daughter, Illeana (Hesselberg) Douglas of Los Angeles, Calif.; and his granddaughter, Gabrielle Hesselberg of Worcester, Mass.; grandson, Tristan Hesselberg of Haddam.
