Luis Somoza Debayle was President of Nicaragua from 1956-1963. The eldest son of the former dictator, Anastasio Somoza Garcia, he was a nationalist and a supporter of some liberal social reforms. At the same time, he was anti-communist and supported the United States in their Bay of Pigs Invasion of Cuba.
