Influenced by Blind Lemon Jefferson and Texas Alexander, Hopkins—rechristened "Lightnin'"—signed with Aladdin Records in the '40s. The prolific singer/guitarist, who recorded for countless labels over the years, scored hits up to the mid-'50s before falling into obscurity.
