Henry John Kaiser was born on May 9, 1882 in Sprout Brook, New York. His father Franz (1842-1929) was a German immigrant who landed in New York but traveled upstate where he was taken in by the Yops family. He later married their daughter Mary (1847-1899) in 1873.

Recording and performing prolifically in many styles of music, Kaiser is a fixture on the San Francisco Bay Area music scene.
