멤버들은 처음에는 Uncle Tupelo라는 이름을 그대로 유지할까 고민했지만(다수의 멤버가 그대로 남아 있었으니), 결국 새로 시작한다는 생각으로 군용 라디오 통신 용어(무전기 항목 참고.)에서 이름을 따온 Wilco로 밴드 이름을 변경하고 1995년에 데뷔 앨범 <A.M.>을 발매한다.
