Durch den für Hollywood und damalige Verhältnisse enormen Erfolg des Filmes, der auch bei den Kritikern gut ankam, wurde die Produktionsfirma noch im selben Jahr mit der Fortsetzung um die Geschichte des Riesenaffen beauftragt.
